About Us

Scottish Plants for Scottish Gardens at
Ashbrook Nursery

Ashbrook Nursery is a family run nursery on the outskirts of Arbroath opposite the Condor Marine base.

Your local garden nursery

At Ashbrook Nursery we pride ourselves on our comprehensive range of plants, many of which we grow ourselves. We grow our plants 'hard' with minimal heat so that they are well prepared for the rigours of life in a Scottish garden.

Our horticulturally qualified staff are always happy to help you choose your plants - for any situation - and our colourful display of plants, containers and baskets are sure to inspire.

In 2017 we won the Lord Provost Trophy for Best Garden Design at Dundee Flower Show and in addition we won the People's Choice Award, an RHS Premium Award certificate and a special award for outstanding Garden Design.

Our garden nursery is a member of the HTA (Horticultural Trades Association) and can supply and accept HTA Gift Cards.

Ashbrook Nursery - where plants come first!

We started as a wholesale nursery growing cut flowers and bedding plants for local shops and garden centres, but over the years we have been developing our own retail outlet. We are proud to offer a huge variety of seasonal bedding and patio plants, baskets and planters, and alpine and herbaceous perennials which we grow ourselves. We also stock a good range of trees, shrubs, roses and conifers.

Our aim is to always stock a good selection of varieties across the whole range of garden plants. We have developed a reputation for producing quality filled baskets and planters using a wide range of alpines, grasses and perennials as well as the more traditional patio and bedding plants.
Garden

We grow our plants in an environmentally friendly way, which produces plants suited to Scottish growing conditions

As we grow much of our own plant material we can claim to have a much lower 'carbon footprint' than most garden centres. One articulated lorry delivery carrying compost, seeds & plugplants, pots & trays allows us to produce plants that would take at least ten lorries to deliver to us fully grown. Also we grow our plants 'hard' - with minimal heat - thereby saving more energy and producing hardy plants that are well able to withstand the rigours of the Scottish climate once planted in your garden.

Help and advice is always on hand

We have an enthusiastic and horticulturally qualified staff who just love their plants and are always willing to impart their enthusiasm and offer advice to our customers. There is always a good selection of planted containers on display in the shop to give inspiration to those wishing to fill their own planters - or to buy ready planted! We also offer a container filling service and are happy to plant up according to your instructions - or just as we choose - we have such a variety of plant material that we can tailor the planting to suit most budgets.

If a customer has a special request for a plant which we do not stock we will do our best to source it - or even try to grow it if you are prepared to wait!

Award winning

Award Winning

We have won numerous medals for our garden displays at the Dundee Food and Flower festival, and were voted as runner up at the 2019 Scottish Outdoor & Leisure Awards.

Community Spirit

At Ashbrook we believe in engaging with and supporting the local community.

We help local community Garden Associations such as Colourful Carnoustie, Brechin in Bloom & Edzell Village Improvement Society to source plants for their displays.
We host visits by local Schools, Dundee & Angus college and Friendship Societies such as The Alyth over 50’s club and go out and about giving talks & demonstrations to WRI groups, youth groups and other social clubs.

Our Open days and Fundays raise money for local Charities and good causes such as youth music, The Learning Tree Partnership & Friends of Keptie Pond.
